Reason For Andrew Wiggins' Absence Has Been Revealed
The Golden State Warriors have played without 2022 NBA All-Star Andrew Wiggins for each of the last 22 games.
Wiggins had been out due to personal reasons, and there weren't specific details reported on the reason for his extended absence.
On Monday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the former Kansas star would likely return soon.
Following Wojnarowski's report, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium has reported more details on Wiggins, including the reason for his absence.
Via Charania: "Golden State's Andrew Wiggins plans to attend Warriors-Thunder on Tuesday. The reason for Wiggins' leave of absence since mid-February is that his father, Mitchell Wiggins, has been dealing with a serious medical situation, sources close to the situation say."
Wiggins had been in the middle of a very productive season with averages of 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals per contest in 37 games.
He is also shooting 47.3% from the field and 39.6% from the three-point range.
Last season, Wiggins made his first All-Star Game, and he was a huge reason why the Warriors were able to win their fourth NBA Championship in eight seasons.
Right now, the team is 41-38 in 79 games, which has them as the sixth seed (the final guaranteed playoff spot) in the Western Conference.
The west has been close, and they are only a half-game in front of the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans
On Tuesday night, the Warriors will host the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
