San Antonio Spurs Reportedly Sign New Guard

According to Hoops Rumors, the San Antonio Spurs have signed Javante McCoy to an Exhibit 10 deal.

Javante McCoy is coming off a year where he played for the South Bay Lakers (G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers).

The former Boston University star averaged 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest while shooting 52.4% from the field and 37.0% from the three-point range in 26 regular season games (he also appeared in 15 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff game).

On Monday, Hoops Rumors reported that the San Antonio Spurs have signed McCoy to an Exhibit 10 deal.

Earlier this month, the Austin Spurs (G League affiliate of the Spurs) announced that they had traded for McCoy.

Via The Austin Spurs on September 1: "The Austin Spurs today announced that they have agreed to a trade with the South Bay Lakers acquiring the returning player rights of Javante McCoy in exchange for the returning player rights of Chaundee Brown Jr. and a 2024 second round draft pick."

After five seasons of college basketball, McCoy initially went undrafted in 2022.

He has yet to make his NBA debut but had a good year in the G League and has also played in the NBA Summer League the previous two summers.

As for the Spurs, they are coming off a year where they were the 15th seed in the Western Conference with a 22-60 record.

The franchise entered a rebuilding mode after trading All-Star guard Dejounte Murray in the summer of 2022.

That said, there is a lot of excitement around the Spurs since they drafted Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
