Spencer Dinwiddie's Viral Quote After Signing With Los Angeles Lakers
Spencer Dinwiddie was recently traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors.
Following the trade, the veteran guard was waived by the Raptors, and after clearing waivers, Dinwiddie signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
On Monday, Dinwiddie met with the media, and one of his quotes went viral on social media (h/t ESPN's Dave McMenamin).
Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times reported that Dinwiddie had likely been deciding between the Mavs and Lakers in free agency, and Dinwiddie shared an analogy for why he chose Los Angeles.
Dinwiddie: "Let's say you're a kid, and you get your a** whupped by the bully. Dallas would have been like your mama, like, 'It's OK, baby, don't worry about it.' Lakers are like your dad; 'Nah, you better go out there and fight till you win.' You feel me? I just felt like that was what I needed at the time."
Dinwiddie is from Los Angeles, but this will be his first time playing there as a pro.
In addition to the Nets, he has also spent time with the Mavs, Wizards and Pistons over ten seasons.
His career averages are 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 33.1% from the three-point range in 514 regular season games.
He's also appeared in 28 NBA playoff games and helped Dallas reach the 2022 Western Conference Finals.
Right now, the Lakers are the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 28-26 record in 54 games.
