Victor Wembanyama's Honest Statement After Lakers-Spurs Game
On Wednesday evening, the San Antonio Spurs hosted the Los Angeles Lakers in Texas.
The Spurs had a fantastic comeback in the fourth quarter (they trailed by 13 points at halftime) but ended up losing the game by a score of 122-119.
Despite the loss, rookie Victor Wembanyama had another excellent game, putting up 30 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, three steals and six blocks while shooting 11/21 from the field and 4/5 from the three-point range in 32 minutes of playing time.
After the game, the 19-year-old met with the media and shared an honest statement.
Wembanyama: "I don't think it comes down to set plays or tactics or nothing. I think it's just playing hard and playing smart. In the first half, we had neither of those. At least, if we're not making shots or if we can't get to the basket on offense, at least we need to get some stops and listen to the scouting report. Me as well, but the whole team. They made baskets, which were unacceptable. Knowing about what we learned about them this morning."
With the loss, the Spurs fell to 3-20 in their first 23 games which has them as the 15th seed in the Western Confernece.
They are in the middle of an 18-game losing streak and just 1-11 in the 12 games they have hosted on their home floor.
Following Wednesday's game, the Spurs and Lakers will face off (again) on Friday evening in San Antonio, Texas.
Wembanyama is averaging 19.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 3.0 blocks per contest.
