A Trade The Spurs And Warriors Should Consider
At 38 years old, Chris Paul is in his 19th season in the NBA and his first playing for the Golden State Warriors.
The future Hall of Famer has missed each of the previous two games and is currently averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.
Despite his age, he still remains a reliable point guard and one of the best passers in the league.
Right now, the Warriors are struggling and have gone 9-11 in their first 20 games, which has them as the 11th seed in the Western Conference.
I believe the San Antonio Spurs should try to make a trade with the Warriors to land Paul.
Why?
The Spurs have missed the NBA playoffs in each of the previous four seasons, but there is a lot of excitement around the franchise because they selected Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the draft.
So far, he has gotten off to a solid start to his rookie season with averages of 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.7 blocks per contest.
That said, the Spurs are the worst team in the Western Conference with a 3-16 record in their first 19 games (they are in the middle of a 14-game losing streak).
Paul has a proven track record of being an excellent mentor to young centers and teams.
When he played for the Los Angeles Clippers, he helped DeAndre Jordan make the All-NBA 1st team.
In addition, Paul led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the 2020 NBA playoffs and the Phoenix Suns to the 2021 NBA Finals.
At 19 years old, Wembanyama would benefit in a significant way from playing with Paul and spending time with him in the locker room.
The Spurs could offer the Warriors a package such as Devonte' Graham, Zach Collins and Doug McDermott for Paul and Cory Joseph (who is eligible to be traded on December 15).
Both teams would likely benefit from the hypothetical deal, and the Spurs would be setting up Wembanyama to have a successful NBA career.
