Golden State Warriors Reportedly 'Explored The Idea' Of Trading For 3-Year NBA Player

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Golden State Warriors "explored the idea of trading for KJ Martin early in the free agency process."

The Golden State Warriors have won the NBA Championship four times in the previous nine seasons (they have also been to the NBA Finals six times in that span).

That said, they are coming off a year where they went 44-38 and lost in the second round of the Playoffs to the Los Angeles Lakers (in six games).

The Warriors have made several significant moves to improve the roster this offseason, such as landing future Hall of Famer Chris Paul.

On Tuesday, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported an intriguing note about the Warriors.

Via Slater's article on The Athletic: "The Warriors explored the idea of trading for KJ Martin early in the free agency process, league and team sources told The Athletic."

Martin is coming off the best season of his three-year NBA career, where he averaged 12.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest while shooting 56.9% from the field and 31.5% from the three-point range in 82 games for the Houston Rockets.

The 22-year-old was the 52nd pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and had spent the first three seasons of his career with Houston.

He ended up getting traded to the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this month.

While the Warriors ultimately didn't get Martin, their interest is surprising, considering he is a young player.

This summer, they have already traded away 24-year-old Jordan Poole, and during the playoffs, 20-year-old Jonathan Kuminga fell out of the rotation and only averaged 6.1 minutes of playing time per contest.
