Phoenix Suns Could Reportedly Sign Kevin Durant's Former Teammate
Yuta Watanabe is coming off a solid season where he averaged 5.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 49.1% from the field and 44.4% from the three-point range in 58 games for the Brooklyn Nets.
The 28-year-old will now enter unrestricted free agency this month, and John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix reports that the Phoenix Suns are a potential destination.
Via Gambadoro: "I will leave you with this before my flight takes off for the motherland - a couple of potential targets for the Phoenix Suns - Keita Bates-Diop and Yuta Watanabe. Suns are a prime destination for vet minimum free agents!"
In addition to the Nets, Watanabe has also played for the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies.
His career averages are 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 43.9% from the field and 39.0% from the three-point range.
Since Watanabe has proven to be an above-average three-point shooter, he will likely have several teams interested in signing him this summer.
With the Nets, the five-year veteran was teammates with Kevin Durant, who was traded to the Suns in February.
As for the Suns, they are coming off a season where they were the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 45-37 record.
They defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs (in five games) but lost to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in the second round (in six games).
This summer, the team acquired Bradley Beal in a blockbuster deal with the Washington Wizards.
