The British-Thai driver has gone into the 2023 season with a new team principal, James Vowles, who was also extremely happy with the results.

Speaking in his post-race interview with Sky Sports, Albon reflected:

"Obviously, Aston Martin has done an amazing step forwards, they're on the podium. But I believe we're second best in terms of improvement from last year.

"I have to say, we've got into q2 yesterday, we should have been in q3. In my opinion, we started out of position in some respects coming into the race starting 15th.

"We had pace, we weren't far away from Mercedes.

"I think, firstly, we started preparing for this year's car quite early. We knew that last year was going to be difficult so we moved our attention towards this year. That always helps.

Albon went on to speak about his new team principal, saying:

"James is not been in the team for long you know, it's only been about two weeks actually. But of course there are short term things that he can give us from Mercedes.

"Little things like tyres and how to manage certain things in short term performance but I'm sure his effects will come in more long term.

"And for our car, we do have characteristics that we don't like in it. And so it's not just about adding downforce, it's about how usable is downforce and we've made the car more usable, not just adding downforce but making it easier to drive in certain corners and in types of tracks.

"Last year, this track really didn't suit us and I wouldn't say it's still suits us that well, but it suits us more than it did last year. And that's where I think the real progress is being made."
