McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has released a statement after the news of the major restructuring at the Woking-based squad.

The team have had a terrible start to the 2023 season with Oscar Piastri being forced to retire from the Bahrain Grand Prix and Lando Norris having to pit six times throughout the race after suffering from a pneumatic leak.

They hoped to turn things around at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, however, both cars ended up suffering from damage. Piastri and Norris finished in fifteenth and seventeenth, respectively.

Stella is determined to lead McLaren back to the front of the field. Since taking on the team principal role, he has been given the mandate to take a strategic approach to ensure the team is set on a long-term foundation for them to build on over the years.

Stella looks forward to continuing working together with Piers Thynne, who will play a fundamental role in defining and delivering the plans to create an innovative and effective F1 team. He said:

“Looking ahead, I am determined and fully focused on leading McLaren back to the front of the field.

"Since taking on the team principal role I have been given the mandate to take a strategic approach to ensure the team is set on a long-term foundation, for us to build on over the years.

“I’m looking forward to continuing working together with Piers, who will play a fundamental role to define and deliver the plans to create an innovative and effective F1 team.”
