Aston Martin Uncertain On Whether Lance Stroll Will Drive In Bahrain Grand Prix
The Aston Martin F1 team is facing uncertainty over the return of driver Lance Stroll, who suffered injuries in a recent bike accident. Stroll is missing the pre-season testing in Bahrain due to the incident in Spain. According to team boss Mike Krack, Stroll sustained injuries to his hand and wrist while training for the upcoming season.
Krack explained that the decision to wait for Stroll’s return is a precautionary measure.
“He had a small incident and hurt himself, and for precautionary reasons, we decided it’s better to wait a little bit and be ready next week."
When asked about the severity of the injuries, Krack declined to provide details, stating that it is Stroll’s personal matter.
"No, I don’t think this is his personal thing, so he is injured on the hand, the wrist so I don’t want to go to detail, this is privacy."
The team is uncertain if Stroll will race in the Bahrain Grand Prix. “We will let you know in time,” Krack said.
Meanwhile, Felipe Drugovich took Stroll’s place during the opening day of on-track action in Bahrain, completing the morning driving duties. The team has not confirmed if Drugovich will continue to drive on Friday and Saturday or if Fernando Alonso will take over.
Krack added that the team has not made a final decision yet on the next few days. However, if Stroll’s absence extends to the season opener, Drugovich is a top candidate to stand in for him. Another option for the team is reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne.
Aston Martin had a difficult start to preparations for the 2023 season, with electrical issues plaguing the session.
The team hopes for Stroll’s speedy recovery, as he is an important driver in their lineup. It remains to be seen who will take his place in the upcoming races, but the team is confident in their reserve drivers' capabilities.
