Australian Grand Prix Set To Be Fastest Yet After FIA Makes Changes
This weekends Australian Grand Prix is set to be the fastest yet and it's all thanks to a game-changing fourth Drag Reduction System (DRS) zone. Formula 1 fans are buzzing with anticipation as the Albert Park circuit prepares to host the third stage of the 2023 season.
Last year, the Aussie GP nearly had its moment in the sun with the introduction of the fourth DRS zone, however, it was cut short due to safety concerns.
But Australian Grand Prix chief Andrew Westacott didn't let the setback dampen his spirits. With a little persistence and a lot of elbow grease, Westacott managed to secure the green light from the FIA and Formula One to reintroduce the fourth DRS zone this year.
This extra DRS zone will catapult the race cars to incredible speeds of up to 340 km per hour (211 mph) around the Melbourne track, making for a heart-stopping spectacle that'll have fans on the edge of their seats. In Westacott's own words, "It will be the fastest race in Melbourne ever."
As the cars zoom around the track faster than ever before, we're in for some jaw-dropping action and record-breaking lap times. As Westacott explains:
"The fourth DRS zone means the cars will be quicker around the back of the circuit, which will obviously increase speed and therefore reduce lap time and make it the quickest Grand Prix and the highest average speed ever in Melbourne."
The Australian Grand Prix will be kicking off with the first two practice sessions this Friday, followed by the third practice session and qualifying on Saturday ahead of the race on Sunday.
Red Bull will be looking to continue with their 1-2 streak with Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Mercedes looking to challenge the Austrian team.
