F1 News: Christian Horner Comments On Max Verstappen Leaving Red Bull - "Difficult To Predict"
Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner, has discussed Max Verstappen's comments on retiring from F1 amid his hatred of the changes the sport is undergoing right now - specifically the addition of the sprint weekend. Assuring fans of the team that the Dutch driver won't be leaving, he admits that the racer's future is "difficult to predict", but because he is in contract, it's not a threat right now.
The 25-year-old is currently fighting against the sport as it undergoes a time of change with its new management Liberty Media. In fact, he's gone as far to threaten to leave. But over the weekend of the Miami Grand Prix, Horner admitted he wasn't worried.
In an interview with RacingNews365.com, Horner said:
"Thankfully, his contract has many years to run on it, so we don’t see that as an imminent risk. But, of course, he has an opinion on it and he’ll always speak openly on it and voice his opinion."
Verstappen is currently the highest-paid driver on the grid, while also having the longest-running contract. He has five seasons left with Red Bull, and during this time he is locked down to the Milton Keynes team. But with Liberty Media wanting to add another four sprint weekends on top of the current 6, Max will likely continue his crusade against this format.
Hopefully, other drivers will follow in his footsteps and voice their concerns to create a better sport. It's no secret that fans are unhappy, and it's highly like that drivers share this annoyance.
