Daniel Ricciardo is a fan-favourite in the world of Formula One, and he has returned to the Red Bull team for the 2023 season as a reserve driver. He made his F1 debut in 2011 for HRT (Hispania Racing) and has since driven for Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault, and McLaren in his long racing career.

However, his start in the world of motoring didn't begin with a high-performance racing machine, but with a surprising, more modest choice of a first car. In a recent interview, the Australian driver has now talked about acquiring his first car.

The Australian racer's first car was not a sleek sports car or a powerful race vehicle, but a rugged and versatile Toyota Hilux. This may come as a surprise to fans who are used to seeing Ricciardo behind the wheel of a high-speed F1 car, but his motoring career began with this unlikely vehicle.

In an interview, the Australian driver surprised fans by revealing that his first car was not a flashy sports car, but a Hilux pickup truck. He explained the truck was gifted to him by his parents in 2006 and, true to his down-to-earth nature, he still drives it today.

The Toyota Hilux has been in production since 1968 and has garnered a well-deserved reputation for toughness and reliability. This has made it a popular choice for both personal and commercial use, capable of handling a range of tasks, from farm work to off-roading.

Fans saw a glimpse of what looked like his Hilux in a video Ricciardo posted to his Instagram at the beginning of the year of him driving and singing along to music. He posted:

"I will continue to butcher beautiful melodies. Happy ‘23"

This is just the start of Daniel Ricciardo's extensive car collection, and it gets a lot more flashy from here.
