Drive to Survive: Ferrari Episode is "Painful to Watch"
Drive to Survive season five was released to Netflix yesterday and fans have been re-living the 2022 season.
Although F1 fans already know what happened during last season, the show offers a behind-the-scenes look within the teams and drivers. However, many have said that the episode focussed on Ferrari is "painful to watch".
Ferrari started off strong with Charles Leclerc taking the first pole position and race win of the season in Bahrain. However, as the season progressed the team encountered many reliability issues and countless strategical problems which saw Leclerc lose his fight for the championship win.
After the season came to a close, it was announced that Mattia Binotto was resigning as Ferrari team principal. Many have put this down to the many mistakes the team made throughout the year.
F1 pundit Karun Chandhok wrote on Twitter:
"This Ferrari episode of #DriveToSurvive is painful to watch…. Having two of the most likeable drivers on the grid makes it even harder to see"
Another Twitter user responded:
"Watching the team IRL is painful to watch too"
Someone else commented:
"Frankly, for the longest running team in F1, it was shocking to see them throw away so many wins. Dreadful strategies and sad to see."
Another user wrote:
"It made me shout at the TV yet again! My word 22 was a rollercoaster for the Tifosi. It was obvious that Mattia lacked experience and confidence to make the right strategic decisions. As rightly pointed out by Karen…"
The Maranello-based team are heading into the upcoming 2023 season with new team principal Frederic Vasseur. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz seem more optimistic in the SF-23 during the three days of testing in Bahrain. Fans and teams will only know just how competitive they are against the other teams at the Bahrain Grand Prix next weekend on 3-5 March.
