F1 2024: How Long Does Each Track Contract Last For?
As Formula One heads into a record-breaking 2024 season comprising of 24 races, there has been a lot of speculation over the addition of more races and the removal of long-standing events on the calendar. We are taking a look at the current track contracts.
Key Takeaways:
- Historical and New Tracks Securing Their Future: Many historical tracks like Silverstone and newer circuits like in Las Vegas have secured their place in the F1 calendar, with contracts extending up to 2037.
- COVID-19 Impact and Strategic Extensions: The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the extension of several contracts, notably the Australian Grand Prix, extended to 2037.
- Investments and Renovations Aligning with Contract Lengths: Several tracks, such as Monza and the Hungaroring, have aligned their renovation and investment plans with the length of their F1 contracts, highlighting the interplay between facilities' upgrades and the sport's evolving requirements.
Circuit contracts to look out for during the 2024 season are the iconic Suzuka and Silverstone, both of which are due to run out at the end of next year. It was reported earlier in the year that a long-term extension was set to be announced for the legendary British Grand Prix, but this has not been officially announced yet.
There has also been speculation of the Spanish Grand Prix moving from Barcelona to Madrid from 2026, however, this has not been confirmed yet. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has recently spoken about the Emilia Romagna and Italian Grands Prix events, keeping the pressure on to push on with the upgrade works that has been postponed.
Below is the current expiry years for each circuit, as per Autosport.
