F1 Fans Lash Out At FIA After Lewis Hamilton's Belgian GP Sprint Race Penalty - "What A Joke"
F1 fans have been hitting out at the FIA after Lewis Hamilton was given a five-second penalty during the Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Race.
There were some fantastic battles in the top 10 during the short race between Hamilton, Perez, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris. As Hamilton came up beside Perez to attempt the overtake, the pair clipped one another.
The Stewards claim that the British driver should have pulled back before the corner to avoid a collision, however, many fans disagree and feel it was a racing incident rather than a penalty-worthy move.
Fans have been taking to Twitter to let out their frustration. One fan posted:
"This sprint Saturday today has just been tiresome. Loosing on the shootout due to no fault of his own then the fia making clowns of themselves with a shameless penalty decision. More strength to Lewis because yooh, I'm tired." [sic]
Another fan shared:
"All I can say is, the @fia completely f**ked @LewisHamilton @MercedesAMGF1. They are racing in the wet, both cars along side each other, what more could Lewis do? If Verstappen was in Lewis position, I would say the same thing. Racing Incident."
"Problem with the Hamilton penalty is that it wasn't a crazy banzai move it was wheel to wheel racing. It really feels like the #FIA are trying to ban actual racing in favour of boring processional races where DRS is the only way to overtake. Wonder which team that favours?"
"It’s a joke it was a racing incident The FIA need to grow pair and stop being paid off by Red Bull."
"The fact that even RB fans who passionately hate Lewis are saying this isn't worth a penalty shows how much the FIA has lost its way, it's uniting rivals"
"What a joke of a penalty, the FIA doesn't know what good racing looks like"
