F1 News: Alex Albon Reveals Awful Recurring Injury At British GP - "I Can Feel My Skin Ripping"

Alex Albon explains what his F1 car is doing to his body when he goes around fast corners

The sea of fame and honour of the Formula 1 world often hides the pain and struggles of almost everything that goes behind making that F1 car go blisteringly fast on a race track. 

One aspect of it that often gets brushed under the carpet is the amount of G-force acting upon every single racing driver as they accelerate, decelerate, and execute corners at unbelievable speeds. 

Williams Racing F1 driver Alex Albon talks about the beating his body has been taking during the races every weekend. Talking to former F1 driver and Sky Sports F1 commentator Jenson Button, he revealed:

“It’s disgusting. If I show you my back, I’ve got lumps and bumps everywhere. Did you [Jenson Button] not have it?

"Where I think because I’m tall, and to get into the car, to get positioned properly, I’m basically quite rounded on my shoulders and my bones stick out.”

At 6 feet and 1 inch, Albon is one of the tallest drivers on the grid, a factor that he thinks is contributing to the injuries that happen at every race. During the weekdays when he is away from his FW45 F1 car, the injuries get time to heal. 

While Albon says he is used to the pain, he expressed that the corners at Silverstone sore his body. He said:

“It’s all fun and games, but seriously through corners like Maggots and Becketts I can feel – it sounds disgusting, but I can feel my skin ripping as I go through the corner.

"It happens every race, so I’m used to it now. My tissue breaks and then repairs just in time for the next weekend. But then it tears open again."

All we can hope for is that the Williams Racing team is able to find a permanent solution to Albon's problem. If that isn't possible given Albon's height, then at least a way to reduce the impact on his skin.
