Ever since James Vowles took on the role of Team Principal at Williams earlier this year, he has fast-tracked operations to upgrade not only the infrastructure that was in place but, also develop the staff to make them more competitive. And it wasn't surprising when Williams driver Alex Albon revealed that work for the 2024 car was initiated in April itself.

Albon, who has scored 11 points for Williams this season explained that despite the few short-term gains, the team's primary focus is on the long term. They've started working on the 2024 car already but that's been happening since April of this year. The Thai-British racer also revealed that he and the team are trying to solve balance issues that were posing to be a challenge for the last four or five years. He said:

"I started working on next year’s car since April on the simulator.

"Working and changing the car characteristics to try to mitigate some of these constant balance issues we’ve been having for the last four or five years. That’s been a big focus for next year."

Owners of Williams Racing sent out a message that they were serious about the team when they hired ex-Mercedes Motorsport Strategy Director James Volwes. A five-year plan is in place for the team to make it win-ready by the end of the specified period.

Volwes' current strategy leans more toward next year which makes more sense than trying to make things work this year. He seems to be taking one step at a time without haste. Despite the absence of a Technical Director, Vowles remained patient to find the right person, which they did recently.

Chief Technical Officer of Alpine Pat Fry was recently relieved from his role and it didn't take much time for Williams to announce his appointment to the team in November as Technical Director. It seems as if Williams is on a path to gains and recovery with the 'slow and steady wins the race' strategy and ironically, that would make them a lot faster on the track.
