F1 News: AlphaTauri Brand Not Returning To 2024 Grid As Huge Changes Are Imminent
AlphaTauri will undergo a significant transformation from 2024. Not only will the team receive a new name, but changes in management are also in the pipeline, adding uncertainty to the future of the Nyck de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda driver pairing.
The journey of AlphaTauri, initially christened Toro Rosso, has been a challenging one. The team adopted the name of a clothing brand after the 2019 season, hoping for positive results. Unfortunately, the past year and a half haven't brought the desired success. Additionally, the AlphaTauri clothing brand has been experiencing financial troubles, and sponsoring a Formula 1 team doesn't come cheap. This situation suggests that a revamp may be on the horizon.
Over the recent seasons, AlphaTauri has been charting its own course, developing more of its own parts. However, according to an interview given to Austria's Kleine Zeitung by Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, this strategy is due for a reversal. The team plans to return to its old method of emulating Red Bull as much as permissible by regulations.
Marko states:
"The course is clear: Follow Red Bull Racing as far as the regulations allow. Designing your own is not the way.
"There will be new sponsors and a new name."
The AlphaTauri moniker will be dropped, with new sponsors coming in to lend their name to the team. However, Marko stops short of revealing the new name, promising an upcoming announcement.
The Italian team are currently last in the constructors' standings with just two points from Yuki Tsunoda and zero from their rookie Nyck de Vries. Amid the confirmation of upcoming changes is uncertainty that de Vries will keep his seat with the team in 2024.
