Aston Martin surprised us with a sudden jump to the top of the grid at the start of the 2023 season. And while they were never fast enough to directly compete with Red Bull, racer Fernando Alonso was able to score a number of well-deserved podiums. That was until they made a wrong choice of upgrades and fell behind a number of teams. Today, they target Red Bull, promising a direct fight in a year.

Team principal Mike Krack has discussed this with GPBlog where he revealed his plans on taking Aston Martin to the podium once again. Feeling optimistic about the future of the team, he reveals that the Silverstone-based team is still ploughing forward:

"We are not switching off the tap, it is full-on development [of the 2023 car]. We have set up a development plan and it was based on continuously developing the car and we follow that."

Of course, with several teams showing huge jumps in development recently, it won't be an easy task to keep up, yet alone get to the top. But with the team finishing P7, they have plenty more wind tunnel time than those who finished further up in the standings this season. But come next season, and it may be a different story.

Fortunately, Red Bull has shown it can be done:

"We will try," Krack continued. "I think it shows that with less wind tunnel time, it is possible".

In his statement, he exudes confidence, demonstrating his belief that even with limited time for aerodynamic testing in the wind tunnel, his team has the potential to square off against the formidable Red Bull team.
