F1 News: Brazilian Grand Prix Sees Carnage On Turn 1 As Multiple Cars Involved In Huge Crash
As if the formation lap wasn't dramatic enough for the Brazilian Grand Prix as Charles Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari and crashed into a wall, the first corner saw Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen collide, leaving both cars out of the race and a red flag after just Turn 1.
The British-Thai driver made contact with Hulkenberg who lunged up from behind, and this knocked the Williams into the path of Kevin Magnussen, with both the Williams and the Haas of Magnussen unable to continue.
As other cars dived to the side to avoid the drama, the debris of this incident damaged a number of other cars ahead of a red flag. McLaren's Oscar Piastri received damage to his rear wing. Daniel Ricciardo also received damage to his car due to a runaway tyre with him likely able to keep racing when the race is restarted. Hulkenberg has also likely sustained damage, although Haas has confirmed that he was able to keep driving.
While the red flag will give McLaren an opportunity to fix Piastri's car, they are ready to retire the car.
What a dramatic start to this iconic race. We'll see a standing start when the race restarts.
