F1 News: Charles Leclerc's Race Engineer Xavier Marcos To Continue Despite Controversies
It is confirmed that Xavier Marcos, Charles Leclerc's race engineer is to continue working with him for the 2024 season, despite past controversies that frustrated the Monegasque driver.
Ferrari and Charles Leclerc have recently reached a new contract agreement, ensuring the Monegasque driver's continued presence in the team beyond 2024. While the specific end date of the contract remains undisclosed, there is speculation that it will extend until 2029.
Speaking of driver signings, Ferrari also made headlines recently as it announced the arrival of F1 legend Lewis Hamilton into the team. Hence, it's clear that Maranello is undergoing significant changes under Fred Vasseur's leadership.
Now though, it appears that Charles Leclerc will retain the same race engineer for the upcoming season. Often referred to as 'Xavi,' he served as Leclerc's race engineer since the Monegasque driver joined Ferrari in 2019. Nevertheless, there have been instances of frustration for Charles Leclerc in his recent years working with Xavi.
Despite previous disagreements, the 26-year-old driver has developed a solid rapport with the Spaniard over time. Consequently, Leclerc has expressed his desire to continue working with Xavi in the foreseeable future.
With just under two weeks remaining, Ferrari is poised to reveal its highly awaited 2024 championship challenger, the SF-24, on February 13th at 11 am (GMT). Last season, the Maranello outfit introduced the SF-23 amidst considerable excitement, boasting of its "unprecedented speed".
Nevertheless, these assertions were debunked as Red Bull's RB19 and Max Verstappen dominated the season. Consequently, Ferrari is preparing for a more subdued unveiling of the SF-24 during the car's launch.
