F1 News: Could Red Bull Be Copying Ferrari 2022 Aerodynamics As Spy Shots Revealed?
Eagled-eyed F1 fans have been analysing footage of the RB19 and many have speculated that Red Bull have gone for a similar aerodynamic approach to Ferrari's F1-75 from the 2022 season.
Two-time champion Max Verstappen took the RB19 out for its first shakedown on the Silverstone track this week and seemed confident with the results. Taking to to social media to share his thoughts, he said:
"I’ve just driven the RB19 for the first time. It was a good first impression. Everything worked really well.
"Everything went really smooth, so that’s exactly what you want from a day like this and I am now of course very excited to go to Bahrain.”
The Austrian team left fans feeling flat after unveiling the RB19 at an event in New York City last week. The team revealed their 2023 contender after 45-50 minutes only for it to have an almost identical livery to the RB18.
Red Bull have previously hidden significant changes until the pre-season testing where we will see the cars on track properly for the first time. However, with Red Bull carrying out some filming revolving around the new car, fans have quickly sunk into the analysis of the results.
Photos from the event show a change to the front wing of the RB19, and if you look closely, you'll spot that it looks very similar to the centre-loaded front wing of the F1-75.
While Red Bull showed significant performance during the 2022 season, the car tended to suffer from hints of understeer. To combat this, it looks as though the team is taking a leaf out of Ferrari's book.
While the tyres could be to blame for this lack of front-end confidence, Red Bull's Adrian Newey will be hard at work on improving his groud-effect-focussed design. And if this is remedied by the world-class aerodynamicist, Red Bull could be in for another great year.
