F1 News: Daniel Ricciardo Speaks Out After Crash That Leaves Him With Broken Wrist
Daniel Ricciardo suffered a hand injury after a crash at the Dutch Grand Prix, ruling him out of the race. Red Bull reserve, Liam Lawson, has been called up to replace him for the weekend.
During FP2 of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, Daniel Ricciardo found himself coming to a abrupt stop when he narrowly missed the crashed Oscar Piastri in his papaya McLaren on the racing line of the famous banked corner of Zanvoort's Turn 3. Hitting the wall hard, the incident saw the AlphaTauri racer being hurried to medical after after the incident. Medical examinations and X-rays disclosed a broken metacarpal in Ricciardo's left hand.
Reflecting on today's drama, Ricciardo told the press:
“It's really unfortunate and frustrating, but I’ll try to recover as quickly as I can.
“Obviously, I’d love to get back soon, but I also want to ensure we do things the right way, so I come back strong and competitive.
“I wish the team well, and I’m sorry for the change in plans again. It’s a chance for Liam to have a go, and I wish him and the team a strong weekend.”
Obviously, Ricciardo won't be racing this weekend, meaning reserve driver Liam Lawson will be stepping up to the plate.
“It has all happened very quickly, but Liam has shown he is more than ready to step up to the challenge, and he has the whole team behind him," AlphaTauri chief race engineer Jonathan Eddolls told the press.
