Fernando Alonso has had an incredible year this F1 season. Still, despite his Aston Martin showing serious pace - for the majority of the season, anyway - like everyone else on the grid he hasn't been able to catch this year's champ Max Verstappen.

Now, the Spaniard has challenged Max Verstappen outside of F1, specifically in a DTM race.

Key Takeaways:

  • Alonso's Impressive 2023 Season: Alonso finished fourth in the drivers' championship with eight podiums, showcasing a significant comeback with Aston Martin.
  • Alonso-Verstappen Banter: Their friendly banter post-Abu Dhabi GP highlighted Alonso's challenge to Verstappen in DTM, alongside Verstappen's 2023 F1 dominance.
  • Challenge for Next Season: Alonso's playful challenge to Verstappen in DTM underlines his confidence and ambition for the upcoming F1 season.

Fernando Alonso, the man who's taken home eight podiums and a fourth place in the drivers' championship this season, recently challenged the Dutch driver to an interesting prospect. It took place after the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix during a live interview on the Viaplay broadcast.

Fernando's tenure with Aston Martin has brought out some of his best racing to date, but it's no secret that we'd all love a bit of competition between the drivers at the very front of the pack.

"I am testing in GT3 if you want in Portimao?" Max asked Fernando in a lighthearted manner. "Maybe we can meet in the middle?" to which Max replied:

"Me in Oregon, with the DTM, maybe I can beat you there."

This year, Verstappen has shown his jokey side and fans are loving it. But while this was a joke, it made me really want to see these two goliaths of motorsport take to the track behind different machinery.
