In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its technical department, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has brought on board Jan Monchaux, a distinguished figure in the motorsport industry, to navigate the complex landscape of Formula 1 regulations. This comes at a critical juncture for the FIA, which has seen a reshuffling of its senior management team in recent times.

With a career that spans over two decades, Monchaux brings to the table a wealth of experience from his tenure at prestigious motorsport teams. Starting at Toyota in the early 2000s, Monchaux's expertise in aerodynamics was further sharpened during his stints at Ferrari and Audi Sport, before taking on the role of technical director at Sauber, and subsequently at Alfa Romeo.

The exit of Tim Goss from the FIA opened up the opportunity for Monchaux to step in. Although regulatory stipulations delay his formal commencement until October, his vision for the future of Formula 1 is poised to influence the sport significantly. Monchaux expressed his anticipation for the challenges ahead, stating in a press release:

“I am very happy to be joining the FIA as technical director and look forward to the fresh challenges this role entails. I have worked on the competitors’ side for many years, but now the opportunity to help shape the future of the sport with the governing body is a prospect I relish.”

Nikolas Tombazis, who oversees the single-seater division at the FIA, lauded Monchaux's arrival as a pivotal addition to the team. He emphasised Monchaux's comprehensive technical acumen as instrumental in shaping the forthcoming regulations of the sport. Tombazis commented:

“I am excited to welcome Jan to the FIA to fulfil an important role in the technical department, and in framing the future regulations of the sport. Jan’s arrival will strengthen our extensive technical expertise.”

Monchaux's role is especially critical as the FIA prepares for the 2026 regulations, which will introduce new power units aimed at enhancing the sport's sustainability and competitive fairness.
