F1 News: FIA Makes Last-Minute Changes To Miami Grand Prix DRS Zones Despite Baku Complaints
After complaints from both drivers and fans after the FIA reduced the length of the DRS zones at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the governing body has once again chosen to do the same thing for the Miami Grand Prix we can reveal from the track-side.
It's the first of three DRS zones that have been altered, with both being shortened by 75 metres with the objective to balance the overtaking performance of the grid.
This comes after it was initially revealed ahead of the season that the FIA would be making DRS changes to the first five races of the season, so such a change was expected. But after a rather disappointing race in Azerbaijan with only 23 overtakes, fans will likely be disappointed with this alteration.
Last year, despite viewers of the race being disappointed, the 2022 Miami GP actually boasted 45 overtakes - although very few were shown through the live feed. With the resurfacing of the track, we're expecting drivers to be able to utilise more of the track for overtaking, so maybe these two changes together will result in better racing.
Red Bull, the car with the most powerful DRS, will be affected by these changes, but will likely still push to the front of the grid. Other cars, especially the more draggy Aston Martins, could be affected more.
This is likely to draw reactions from fans and drivers alike, so we'll see what they have to say in due course as we edge closer to the first press conference of the weekend.
