FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has reportedly suffered a fall and concussion, coinciding with the conclusion of the investigation into the allegations surrounding Toto and Susie Wolff. This news, reported by F1 correspondent Philip Duncan, has raised concerns about the health of the FIA President during a tumultuous period in the sport.

Key Takeaways:

  • Investigation Closure: The FIA has officially ended its investigation into Toto and Susie Wolff, with no ethical or disciplinary actions taken.
  • FIA's Integrity: The FIA emphasised its commitment to fairness and integrity in motorsport, reassuring that their systems are robust against unauthorized information disclosure.
  • Community Response: The F1 community showed mixed reactions to the investigation's outcome, with several teams backing the Wolffs and affirming the integrity of the F1 Academy.

Following an extensive investigation into Toto Wolff, Mercedes CEO and team principal, and his wife Susie Wolff, managing director of the F1 Academy, the FIA has reached a definitive conclusion. The probe, initiated amidst concerns of potential conflicts of interest and unauthorized access to confidential data, has been closed with no evidence of ethical or disciplinary breaches found.

This inquiry scrutinised the roles and potential access to sensitive information by the Wolffs. However, the FIA's compliance department affirmed the strength of FOM's information protection systems, ensuring the prevention of any unauthorized data leaks.

The FIA's official statement reinforced its commitment to the sport's integrity, stating:

"The FIA can confirm that there is no ongoing investigation in terms of ethical or disciplinary inquiries involving any individual."

It's now been revealed, however, that Sulayem was in fact in hospital at the time of these allegations.

“Several days ago the President (Mohammed Ben Sulayem) took ill and suffered a fall and concussion. He received care in hospital and will make a full recovery," an FIA spokesperson has said according to Duncan.

Obviously, this separates the president from the drama that has seen thousands of fans, as well as F1 teams, turn on the governing body. But only two days ago on the 6th of December, Sulayem posted to Twitter a video of him attending the 2023 FIA General Assemblies in Baku.

"Great first day of the 2023 FIA General Assemblies in Baku, leading global conversations towards a brighter future for mobility and motorsport," he posted.

The video has since been deleted.

This has obviously stirred fans, who believe this could be a cover up to separate the president from the recent choices made by the FIA.

"Resign immediately. Disgraceful what’s happened over the past 24-hours or so," one fan comments.

A second adds: "Attacking Susie Wolff. A low blow."

A third: "The motosport could be better. To achieve this just one thing is needed...you must go! Do read all these comments. It could be helpful to decide how fast you want to resign. Good luck!"
