F1 News: Haas Chief Summoned To Stewards After Monaco GP Complaints
Guenther Steiner, the now-famous chief of the Haas F1 team, has been asked to explain himself to the stewards. The reason behind this unusual request? Well, it seems Mr. Steiner had some choice words about the decisions made by the stewards at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The saga began when Nico Hulkenberg, an experienced F1 driver but new to the American-owned team this season, was slapped with a time penalty during the Monaco race. That decision did not sit well with Steiner. His dissatisfaction became public during Friday's team bosses' press conference. GPblog, who attended, reported Steiner's passionate remarks.
Steiner did not mince words.
"It's like, F1 is one of the biggest sports in the world, and we still have laymens, deciding on the fate of people who invest millions in their careers."
Sky Sports caught up with Steiner to get his take on the summons. He showed a mix of humour and seriousness.
"I don't know what I've done this time! I go and see them, and I'll let you know afterwards. If I talk now, I get the call the second time! I take this seriously and I will tell them my opinion about it. Nico and the penalty we got, I had an opinion on it," said Steiner.
It's clear that Steiner is not backing down. But is he wrong? I would suggest that Steiner is entirely correct and that the FIA should have a select group of trained professionals behind their punishments.
