Red Bull's Sergio Perez relinquished a crucial podium position in the waning stages of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The duel between Perez and Fernando Alonso provided a dramatic ending to the event, with the battle going right to the line.
Marko dissected the crucial moments that led to Perez's downfall in a statement to Sky Germany. He pointed out that Perez's suboptimal exit from Turn 3 and a minor but decisive manoeuvre on the straight towards Turn 1 allowed Alonso to take advantage and ultimately edge him out in a spectacular finish.
"That's all in hindsight.
"The mistake was that Checo didn't get out of Turn 3 properly and later made a little move on the straight on the way to Turn 1, but anyway, unbelievable.”
However, it's not all a narrative of lost glory for Perez. Marko praised the Mexican driver's resurgence, indicating that his performance in recent weeks marks the end of a difficult period. Heading into the season's final two races, Perez boasts a 32-point lead over his nearest rival, Lewis Hamilton, placing him in a strong position to secure the runner-up spot in the drivers' championship.
"Since Mexico, Checo's pace has been right, both in qualifying and in the race. He now has a solid 30-point lead over Lewis, so now we can assume second place,” he added.
