Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko believes Andretti Cadillac should buy the Alpine F1 team.

This comes after recent rumours that the American team, which is hoping to join the grid for the 2025 or 2026 season, is being urged to purchase Alpine after their huge personnel shake-ups.

It was confirmed just before the Belgian Grand Prix that the French team were parting ways with their team principal Otmar Szafnauer and sporting director Alan Permane after the race at Spa-Francorchamps. They have also lost their chief technical officer, Pat Fry, who will be becoming the Williams technical director.

Speaking in an interview with Sport1.de, Marko spoke about the current situation of the team. He explained:

"Andretti should buy the Alpine team.

"That would be best for everyone. Formula 1 would keep its 10 teams, Andretti could finally get in and Renault can still be involved."

Andretti Autosport joined forces with General Motors, under the Cadillac name, to propose an All-American team to join the F1 grid. Although they are currently going through the Expressions of Interest process and are waiting for the go ahead, they have already got 25 employees and are developing the F1 car in readiness.

The prospect of bringing in additional teams to the grid has not been met with open arms from the majority of the existing grid with the threat of a new team not bringing anything advantageous to the sport whilst diluting the prize money. Marko's suggestion would coincide with other team chief's wishes of keeping the grid at ten teams. Although, it is worth noting that Alpine has not publicly expressed any interest of selling and this is just speculation from those within the sport at the moment.
