F1 News: Lewis Hamilton At All Time Low - "The Car At It's Worst"
It hasn't been the greatest season for seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, and Mercedes. And it appears that after another fault during Practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix, things have only gotten worse.
Lewis Hamilton finished P16 in FP2 after not registering a time during the rain-soaked FP1 session.
After the result, Hamilton wasted no time to criticise a new rule change that is currently in trial at the Hungaroring.
"Alternative Tyre Allocation" is a new standard that is set to help make Formula One more sustainable, bringing teams tyre total from 13 to 11.
Hamilton only used one set of medium tires for his practice session, and with mediums being used in the rain, the car wasn't able to perform the way Mercedes wanted.
"Not really a great format, this change they made for this weekend. It just means we get less running."
The medium tyres lacked a lot of grip on the wet track, leaving Hamilton to a more cautious drive rather than an aggressive one. You can even consider that the tyre used are technically wasted, just for the sake of these new regulations.
Despite the issues during Friday's practice sessions, Hamilton is hopeful that Mercedes and the rest of the garage can turn things around, not only in Hungary, but for the rest of the season.
"It felt like the car at its worst, but we will work on the set-up overnight. Last year, it felt terrible at the beginning and then we turned it around with some set-up changes...So we will work on that and hopefully we will feel better."
