F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Crashes At Monaco Grand Prix In Dramatic Moment
Lewis Hamilton crashed during FP3 of the Monaco Grand Prix. Causing a red flag and a cancelled session, he managed to wedge his Mercedes into the barrier at Turn 5.
"Sorry about that, mate," said a solemn-sounding Lewis with the W14 looking like a difficult car to control after its new upgrades this weekend.
After struggling with the car for over a year now, the Brackley-based team brought in several upgrades for this weekend including a new floor, new sidepods, and front suspension. Despite this, the car seems to be a handful to drive. But it must be noted that before the accident, he was in fact the fastest driver of the sector.
The reason behind the incident was simple oversteer with the driver looking to come into Turn 5 a bit too hot. With the car starting to push at the rear, Hamilton countered and with this steering input, it went into the wall.
On recovery of the car, the W14 was lifted into the air and started swinging dangerously before it was hoisted further up into the Monegasque air with the secret floor for all to see. Not the best day for Mercedes, but with qualifying later today, the team might be able to pull things around.
