F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Ducks Out Of Latest 2023 Drivers Vote
With the exception of Lewis Hamilton, every Formula 1 driver participated in voting for the top ten drivers of the 2023 season. Drivers were also allowed to cast votes for themselves. Subsequently, the scores were compiled using the F1 points system to establish the final list of the top ten drivers.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen not only won the 2023 championship title but, he was also voted number 1 by his fellow drivers. After all, he displayed complete dominance with the help of his RB19 F1 car this year, winning 19 out of the 22 Grands Prix.
He also broke several records this year set by F1 legends in the past and secured his third championship title. His rival, Hamilton, was voted by other drivers to be the second-best driver on the grid, one position up compared to the votes he received last year.
Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso, who had a fairly successful run in his debut year with Aston Martin, was voted to P3 by the drivers. The 42-year-old Spaniard scored eight podiums during the season, which helped elevate the team's position in the Constructors' Championship.
Surprisingly, the new entrants of the season earned themselves a spot in the top ten as well. McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, who experienced an excellent debut season earned himself the eighth position on the list, while Alpine driver Pierre Gasly was placed P9.
Speaking of drivers who lost positions compared to last year, Charles Leclerc dropped from the second position to the fifth position this year. But the driver that descended the order by several positions was George Russell. The Mercedes driver was voted to the third position last year but in 2023, he did not make it on the list.
All drivers received votes in the following order.
1. Max Verstappen
2. Lewis Hamilton
3. Fernando Alonso
4. Lando Norris
5. Charles Leclerc
6. Carlos Sainz
7. Alex Albon
8. Oscar Piastri
9. Pierre Gasly
10. Sergio Perez
