F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Gives Update On His Future In The Sport Ahead Of British GP

Lewis Hamilton has given an update on his future in F1.

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has given an update on his future in the sport.

The Mercedes driver feels invigorated and envisions at least "another five years" of competitive racing left in him. In talks to extend his tenure with Mercedes—a team that's seen him win six out of his seven World Championships since 2013—Hamilton is motivated to maintain his top physical form and race beyond this year and into his 40s.

Hamilton, at 38, is not just focused on the track. While he's got his sights set on extending his contract past this year, he's also looking beyond that, predicting a racing career into his 40s given his current health and performance.

Maintaining peak fitness is a challenge Hamilton doesn't shy away from. He's aware that the demand on him to perform is even higher now, and he's more driven to stay at the top of his game than ever.

Following his first season without a win in F1 last year, his resolve is stronger than ever, as he emphasised whilst speaking at The F1 Show ahead of the British Grand Prix:

“No, you’re wrong. I’ve got more dedication than I had back then.

“I think naturally when you’re young, when you’re in your early 20s it comes a lot easier as you can rely more on your natural ability and it’s easier to be fit.

“I have to train harder now, I work harder with my engineers. I’m more dedicated than I’ve ever been and I’m hungry. Yeah, I want to get back up there.”

Giving an update on his future in the sport, the British driver continued:

“I’m hoping to be a lot longer. I feel like I’ve got another five years in me at least – let’s see.”

“I don’t have the pen at the moment,” Hamilton said , smiling.

“But I mean, we’re close. I have 100% faith in this team and we’re going to get there.

“We have a lot to do not only on the track, but off the track. We’re doing a lot of work with really trying to improve the pipeline, make the team and the sport more diverse.

“We have so many great things creatively that we’re doing as well together, plus the most important thing is we want to win, so we’ve got to get back there and get the Brits up on top.”
