Lewis Hamilton could be on to something when he said that Red Bull has slowed down. Is it the budget cap penalty or something we don't know of yet?

Lewis Hamilton has hinted at something interesting during an interview ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix and it seems like the British racing driver does know something that we don't know.

Of course, sports personalities do indulge in mind games but nevertheless, the comment was rather surprising and strange. He said:

"What we do know is that Red Bull have slowed down. You should probably look into that."

Hamilton secured pole position for the Hungarian GP by 0.003 seconds for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021.

In another interview, Hamilton revealed that the Red Bulls don't possess the advantage they had earlier this year when a journalist from Sky F1 asked if the Milton Keynes-based team was struggling with the new Pirelli tyre compound. He said:

"Honestly, I think [Red Bull] have slowed down quite a bit from the beginning of the year.

"They've still got the DRS, [but] they don't have the DRS advantage all of a sudden that they used to have. Where did that go?

"But they've just had an upgrade, so we expected them to have taken another step. We heard it was around two-tenths or something like that, so for them to not have been able to extract that in Qualifying is interesting.

"I think in the race [Red Bull are] still the quickest and it will be very hard to beat them.

"We're just as surprised as everybody else, but definitely interesting to see some of the deficits and how it's changed from race to race and how we've all closed up, and super happy to see McLaren in there."

Despite conquering pole, it would still be difficult to beat the "quickest." Coming to Hamilton's comments we're not sure if he's hinting at a 'silent penalty' levied on Red Bull considering the ongoing cost cap audit.

Is it Hamilton's wishful thinking? Or is there a lot more to it than meets the eye? F1 conspiracy theorists and fans on Twitter revealed multiple possibilities as they reacted to Hamilton's comments.

With multiple possibilities in sight, only time would be able to tell what Hamilton is hinting at.
