As Formula 1 drivers enjoy their time off the track in the winter break, Lewis Hamilton sets out to do something more dangerous and thrilling. The seven-time world champion posted a video on Instagram that shows him skydiving from a plane.

The Mercedes driver has been spending his time indulging in various activities. His social media updates offer fans an idea of what he has been up to lately. Until now, Hamilton surfed, tested the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+, and watched a Denver Broncos NFL game.

The latest skydiving post shows him in action without an instructor, which suggests that he must be very good at it. After making the jump at an approximate altitude of 10,000 feet, Hamilton made no fuss. In fact, his expressions through the visor on his helmet show him to be calm and composed.

While his endeavors off the track might cause his team boss Toto Wolff to be concerned, Hamilton seems to love the thrill he gets out of adventure sports. He is an avid surfer as well and earlier this year, he revealed a dare he received from American professional surfer Kelly Slater, who insisted that he could not take on a 25-foot wave. Being the risk-taker that Hamilton is, he revealed in an interview with Robb Report:

“I’ve always been a risk taker. When someone says ‘You can’t climb that tree,’ I’ll climb it, even if I’ll almost certainly fall out of it.

“Kelly was like: ‘There’s no way you’re going out there.’ And I was like: ‘Kelly, I’m going out.’

“This thing was massive, a huge tunnel, and I could see Kelly coming right down it in front of me. And I just had to make sure I didn’t get sucked in.

“So I dived down and grabbed the reef and prayed. I could hear the thing land behind me, like a bomb going off.

“My board got ripped off and snapped in half. I was very close to the end. But that excites me for some reason.”
