Former F1 driver Johnny Herbert has voiced his belief that the new partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at Ferrari will be a strong pairing, however, he doesn't see the latter welcoming the British driver with "open arms". This assertion comes in light of the recent confirmation that Hamilton will join Ferrari in 2025, setting the stage for an electrifying collaboration.

Key Takeaways:

  • Dynamic Duo: Johnny Herbert asserts that the combination of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at Ferrari will elevate both drivers' performances. The synergy between their driving styles and competitive spirits is anticipated to benefit the team immensely.
  • Competitive Spirit: Charles Leclerc's assertive approach at Ferrari, notably when he joined alongside Sebastian Vettel, demonstrates his uncompromising ambition. Herbert admires this quality, hinting that Leclerc's interaction with Hamilton will be marked by a blend of respect and rivalry, pushing both to their limits.
  • Learning Curve: The partnership is seen as a valuable learning opportunity for both drivers. Herbert recalls advice from Alain Prost, emphasising that a driver's evolution is continuous.

The arrival of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in 2025 to partner with Charles Leclerc heralds a new era for the iconic racing team. Johnny Herbert, a seasoned figure in the racing community, has shared his insights, suggesting that this collaboration could redefine team dynamics and competitive standards in Formula 1. Herbert emphasises the potential for mutual growth, stating:

"Yes, I think it will be a very good fit. It will help raise both of their levels. It will be a good thing for the team. It will be interesting to see if there are any differences in their setups or their feel for the car.

"What I like about Charles is that when he first came into Ferrari, when a four time world champion in Sebastian Vettel was there, he didn’t say he was going to come in to learn. He literally came in and said, ‘Move aside. This is my team now. I am the young whipper snapper.’

"He has a very good mentality of what he wants. He is not going to welcome Lewis with open arms, let's say. But he will be up against someone in Lewis who can still be a mighty figure, in mighty that means winning world championships.

"Suddenly the pressure will be very different for Charles. That will be where it might be tough for Charles, because he will know that in Lewis there is somebody who can always raise his level.

"It will be very good for them both and for Ferrari to have them battling out against each other. As a driver you are always learning. I remember Alain Prost telling me even on the last lap of his last race he was still able to learn something."
