Liam Lawson has brought home two points for AlphaTauri on his third race as an F1 reserve driver. This is an incredible result for the young New Zealander who will be fighting for a permanent seat in the not-too-distant future.

Talking with Sky Sports F1, he reflected on his P9 finish at the challenging track and discussed his hopes for securing a permanent seat for 2024.

"I'm pretty tired right now. The race was long. It was hot. But I think we maximised, we didn't quite have the speed for the guys in front, so that was a bit tricky.

"On my side I need to sort these starts [out] because it's two weekends in a row now that I've lost two spots off the line and it's just making our life more difficult. It's two spots and around here you can't overtake so it's crucial.

"Obviously, we did the hard work yesterday and put ourselves in Q3 and to lose those spots off the line is a bit tricky. So for the rest of the race, I gave it everything."

When asked what happens from this moment on as Lawson sets his sights on a full-time seat in Formula One. He responded:

"I mean, I've been beating the drum since before driving an F1, trying to get this shot. And now I have this opportunity. I'm just trying to maximise it.

"So I speak to Dr. Marko after each race. And I'm sure I speak to them [Red Bull] after this one but to be honest, we're just focused on maximising this. I have this very short window, I basically want to get to the end of it and look back and know that I've done everything I could."

Danica Patrick went on to ask what his chances were of securing a seat for next year, two which Lawson replied:

"I really I have no idea, honestly. It's tricky to get a full time seat in this sport. But like I said, rather than looking at all those external things, it's, for me, just focusing on every session, trying to maximise each time I'm in the car and try what I can."
