F1 News: Max Verstappen Compared To Michael Schumacher By Two-Time Champion

"His dedication to the sport... racing was his life! It wasn't an ordinary job, not an ordinary hobby, but it was his life. Exactly that's what I see in Max as well."

Mika Hakkinen aka the Flying Finn recently visited the Netherlands where he took the time out to speak to the media. The two-time world champion revealed his views on Max Verstappen and why he's so similar to F1 legend Michael Schumacher in many ways.

Out of the 12 Grand Prix this season, Verstappen has won 10 of them and is on his way to securing his third championship title. Looking at his dedication to the sport and the hunger to win, Hakkinen compared him to F1 icon Michael Schumacher by saying:

"Michael Schumacher. He was undoubtedly an incredible F1 driver. His dedication to the sport... racing was his life! It wasn't an ordinary job, not an ordinary hobby, but it was his life. Exactly that's what I see in Max as well: it's his life.

"He [Max] thoroughly enjoys what he does. When he's not in a race car, he's either driving in the sim or testing and developing things.

"By doing that [sim, testing/ developing things], he's not just learning, for example by finding new racing lines or braking later, but you can also develop your brain better. Discipline, learning new things about yourself: making yourself better. The only way to do that is practice, practice, and stay hungry for winning!"

Hakkinen is one of the most renowned Formula 1 drivers in the history of not only the sport but also of McLaren. Known for being silent and focussed, the Finnish driver has scored 51 podiums, 20 Grand Prix wins, 26 pole positions, and 2 drivers' championships throughout his career.
