Max Verstappen has defended Red Bull's RB19 livery following the backlash from the teams launch event on Friday.

The launch of the Red Bull Racing's RB19 in New York sparked much anticipation, especially after the team hinted at the possibility of changing their livery for the 2023 season. The team's current design, featuring a blue base with a red and yellow bull engine cover, has become iconic in recent years.

However, the team caused a stir when they ran a special livery to celebrate their partnership with Honda at the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix. This led to speculation about whether they would choose to adopt a new look for the upcoming season.

In the end, the team decided to stick with their recognisable livery, at least for now. But their star driver, Max Verstappen, was curious about the potential change. He questioned the reasoning behind altering a design that has brought the team so much success.

At the New York launch, Verstappen was asked about his thoughts on the new livery. He expressed his bewilderment at the possibility of change, stating that he couldn't comprehend why the team would want to switch up a paint scheme that has proven to be so successful.

The two-time champion explained after seeing the car for the first time:

"Our livery has been pretty similar for a couple of years now. But I actually always find that a cool-looking car.

"It really shows you the Red Bull colours all over the place and we have had a lot of success like that, so why do we need to change it up a lot?

"Of course, we have a few more partners on the car, and a few new partners as well. And that's what it's all about."
