F1 News: Max Verstappen Gives Insight Into Red Bull Upgrades Ahead Of Hungarian GP
Despite the push, Max Verstappen preferred to keep mum when asked about the details of the upgrades on his RB19 Formula 1 car during Thursday's FIA press conference ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Red Bull has won all ten races this year while the Dutchman claimed his sixth victory in a row at Silverstone.
Despite the team getting nearer to McLaren's 1988 record of winning 11 races in a row, the team at Red Bull continues to work on improving the RB19's performance.
The car is all set to receive a revised sidepod package that could shave as much as 0.2 seconds of time for each lap of the Hungaroring circuit. When asked by Tom Clarkson about the details of the upgrades, Verstappen refrained from giving out specific information in his answer. He said:
“They look good.
“Normally makes the car a bit faster, but it also looks nice, so…”
When asked if there are specific areas that upgrades will improve the car, he said:
“In the corners. Mainly.”
Despite his hesitation, he was asked if opposition teams should be worried about the gain in performance. However, a diplomatic Verstappen said:
“I mean, everyone of course naturally always tries to improve the car, right? So that’s also what we are trying to do.”
The two-time world champion even refrained from sharing much about what could stop Red Bull from taking a 12th win in a row. He said:
“I don’t know.
“I’m honestly not really thinking about that, I’m just here to have a good weekend and of course I try to win.
"I’m not going into this weekend thinking we can win 12 races in a row. If we win that means of course we break that record, but it’s more important that we win.”
It is clear that neither Red Bull nor Verstappen intend to speak on details of the upgrades on the RB19 car. The latter casually caged the specifications through a typical answer on the upgrades:
“We have a couple of upgrades this weekend, hopefully they will do what we expect them to do so we can find extra performance for the upcoming races.”
