F1 News: Max Verstappen On Lewis Hamilton's Formula One Film - "Don't Need To See It"
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has candidly shared his lack of interest in the upcoming F1 film starring Brad Pitt, despite its close ties to the sport and influence from Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen, known for his direct approach, expressed his views on the film's portrayal of Formula 1, highlighting its fictional and over-dramatised nature.
Key Takeaways:
- Lewis Hamilton's F1 film focuses on Brad Pitt's character, a retired F1 driver who returns to mentor a teammate. To enhance authenticity, filming occurred during actual F1 race weekends, beginning with the 2023 British Grand Prix.
- While acknowledging Brad Pitt's acting prowess and the interesting behind-the-scenes glimpse offered at the US Grand Prix, Verstappen remains uninterested in watching a dramatised portrayal of his own sport.
- In an effort to lend realism to the movie, Mercedes provided a modified F2 car for the production.
The three-time F1 champion's comments were made in an interview with Formule1.nl, he explained:
“Yes, so many. Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and so on, those roles stick with me.
“I like films anyway and Brad Pitt is of course a super actor.
“Before the US Grand Prix in Austin, I saw a few clips from the new film.
“They were shown during the drivers’ meeting with an explanation of how they had filmed it all.
“Nice to see, but it doesn’t really interest me that much. I don’t need to see a film of my own sport.
“This film is of course a made-up story and everything is always over-dramatised, you have to love that. I personally don’t have that much with that.”
The Dutch driver has had a similar approach to Netflix's Drive to Survive series which he removed himself from for some time. After he picked up his first Drivers' Championship win, Verstappen decided to make a return to the docuseries when he came to an agreement with the production team addressing his concerns of false narratives and over-dramatising situations.
