Contrary to expectations, Red Bull opted for a new car concept this season, deviating from the highly successful RB19 of 2023. Max Verstappen, however, is unfazed by the change, expressing full confidence in the team's ability to create a competitive and victorious car.

Key Takeaways:

  • Red Bull surprised by choosing a new car concept for the RB20, deviating from the successful RB19 of 2023, but Max Verstappen expresses confidence in the team's ability to create a competitive car.
  • Despite winning 21 out of 22 Grands Prix last year, Red Bull opted for an evolutionary approach with the RB20, challenging their comfort zone.
  • The car's innovative design, notably resembling Mercedes's W14 from 2023, raised eyebrows, but Verstappen remains unfazed, trusting Adrian Newey's creation for the upcoming season.

Red Bull remained out of its comfort zone by pursuing a new car, despite dominating the grid last year by winning 21 out of the 22 Grands Prix. The RB20 is being termed an evolution of its predecessor rather than a revolution.

The innovative design of the car caught the attention of observers, raising eyebrows due to the striking similarity of the sidepods to those of Mercedes's W14 from 2023. This approach, previously used by the Brackley team, proved challenging as they went winless in the previous year.

Nevertheless, despite the alterations and specifics, Verstappen conveyed complete confidence in Adrian Newey's creation. He told the media:

"I trust the team, to be honest, that they have made the right decisions in terms of choosing the right of the car.

"I saw how it was drawn last year, but I don't care how it looks, as long as it is fast and when I saw it for the first time, fully built, [it doesn't matter] whatever shape it has.

"I would sit in the car and once you drive out [of the pit-lane], you feel quite quickly if it feels quite normal and unfortunately, our filming day was wet so you don't really know anything.

"But as soon as I jumped in, it felt pretty normal.

"Yes, it looks a bit different, but it is the direction that the team chose and I believe its the best direction to go into for the season."
