F1 News: McLaren To Bring MCL60 Upgrades "Soon After" Summer Break

McLaren will be bringing upgrades to the MCL60 "soon after the shutdown".

McLaren is gearing up to further enhance their MCL60 F1 car and the upgrades could come to this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix

Team Principal Andrea Stella revealed that the team is focusing on specialised low-drag solutions for high-speed tracks, particularly for circuits like Las Vegas and Monza. These advancements take cues from their success stories in Britain and Hungary before the summer break.

McLaren has hinted at significant design evolutions coming to "one of the events soon after the shutdown", especially concerning the car's bodywork and floor. Stella remarked on the evolution, highlighting the changes not just in measurements but also in conceptual development. He explained to the media:

“We are working on an evolution of these concepts for post shutdown. There is another kind of round [of changes to] the bodywork and floor.

"We still have to sign this off, and we have a few more days of work, but if we are successful, then we will definitely attempt to bring it in one of the events soon after the shutdown.”

But McLaren's vision extends beyond immediate races. As the curtain falls on the development phase for the 2023 F1 car, eyes are already set on the 2024 model. This new iteration will undergo rigorous testing in McLaren's new cutting-edge wind tunnel located in Woking.

“I think we kind of understand what happened with this one, but what we are working on is not only simple millimetres, it is a bit of a conceptual evolution.

“So, there's a degree of uncertainty with aerodynamic evolutions. And, really, the evidence comes only when you test these kinds of things trackside, because even if you have a good wind tunnel correlation, and good CFD correlation, you're always a little bit on the edge of knowledge. And I think this is the same for every team.”
