Mercedes set out to achieve the impossible with the AMG One car which broke barriers in the automotive industry by creating the first legal hypercar integrated with F1 technology for the real world. Naturally, someone had to make a documentary of the historic developments that went into making this special car and finally, the trailer of the documentary is out for all of us to watch.

Produced by Tina Preschitz and directed by Jochen Schmoll, the scene opens with Lewis Hamilton talking about how he revealed the idea to Mercedes, of that one special hypercar that kills the supercar competition.

The philosophy behind the AMG One car was simple- to take a Formula 1 powertrain and make it street-legal. However, to achieve the impossible by venturing into the unknown, the team went through testing times to the point where they thought of giving up.

Apart from highlighting that team's success which ensured all units of the car were sold out, the documentary aims to show the complicated, nerve-wracking, tumultuous, and highly stressful journey that Mercedes AMG went through to make the AMG One.

Imagine developing a car with an entirely new concept that you're not sure whether it would work, while the world stared at your developments constantly, keeping your legacy at gunpoint. All this for six years, as the project went through misfires, delays, frustrations, and tensions within the teams and the management. Not to forget the 275 customers eagerly ringing the bell and waiting at the doorstep to hand out a cheque for about £2.2 Million for the car.

Powered by a 1.6L V6 F1 style engine, the AMG one produces 1063 HP and crosses 60 MPH in 2.9 seconds. But, one major difference from an F1 car is the addition of a plug-in hybrid system which features an 8 kWh battery. Apart from that, everything is pure F1 stuff. Including the aero, the rear wing, and the steering. It's even got a DRS mode on it!

Leaving aside Hamilton, the documentary features former racer and F1 Academy managing director Susie Wolff, businesswoman Victoria Swarovski, car presenter Mat Watson, former F1 driver David Coulthard, FIA president Dr. Ben Sulayem, the Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG management including engineers, mechanics, designers and software developers.

This isn't just another documentary, but a story of how a mega-brand like Mercedes put everything at stake for that one project in automotive history, called Project One.
