F1 News: Mercedes Chief Champions "Strongest Pairing On The Grid" As Contracts Confirmed
It was confirmed earlier today that Mercedes has extended both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell's contracts until the end of the 2025 season.
Whilst the seven-time champion's contract was highly-anticipated with it previously set to expire at the end of this season, Mercedes took the opportunity to lock Russell in for an additional year as well.

Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff has explained that it was an easy decision to make claiming that they have the "strongest pairing on the grid". He commented in the press release:
“Continuing with our current driver line-up was a straightforward decision. We have the strongest pairing on the grid and both drivers are playing a crucial role in the team to move us forward. The strength and stability they provide will be key building blocks for our future success."
Non-Executive Chairman & Mercedes-Benz AG CTO, Markus Schäfer, also explained:
“We are excited to continue this journey with both drivers and look forward to sharing more success in the future. I know the whole team is motivated for the rest of the season and continuing to build momentum into 2024 and beyond.”
The Brackley-based squad has struggled to find the needed performance to be competitive with Red Bull since the change in regulations in 2022. The downturn in performance led many to believe Hamilton may look elsewhere as he continues to strive for his eighth championship title. However, both Wolff and the British driver have remained adamant throughout the process that they are keen to continue their working relationship.
Despite the struggles, Mercedes is currently running in second position in the constructors' standings with a 40-point lead on Aston Martin in third position.
