Mercedes CEO and team principal Toto Wolff recently expressed to Sky Sports News that he considers Lewis Hamilton the most influential figure in Formula 1 and claims they "owe him an eighth championship" win.

Wolff was full of praise for Hamilton, citing not just his exceptional driving skills but also his relentless commitment to promoting diversity within the pinnacle of motorsport. His views were also echoed by F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

Wolff praised Hamilton by saying to Sky Sports News:

"Hamilton is clearly the most important personality in our sport. He is so multi-dimensional. He is not only a racing driver and world champion, but he is trailblazing for diversity, for sustainability, and there are no limits for Lewis Hamilton as a racing driver, as an entrepreneur, and as a politician.

"I think he is one of the most spectacular personalities and characters that I have ever met,"

In response to Wolff's sentiments, Domenicali added:

"I would say more short-term I would love to see Lewis still fighting on the track, but I agree with Toto that he is an incredible personality. He has shown that he has raised the bar of interest in a lot of topics."

Wolff also acknowledged that Mercedes owes Hamilton something he deeply desires. With a hint of regret and determination, he said, " We owe him an eighth world championship," while speaking from 10 Downing Street in London.

There has been a lot of speculation so far this year over Hamilton's contract with Mercedes, which is currently coming to an end this season. At this point it seems like a formality for both parties as they have expressed an interest to continue to work together. The seven-time champion is adamant that he wants to carry on fighting for his eighth championship, and hopefully he will be able to do that with the Mercedes team.
