F1 News: Mercedes Gives A Sneak Peek Into 2024 Season At Silverstone
The Mercedes F1 team gave fans a sneak peek into the 2024 season at Silverstone through a social media post on X, with the caption "F1 2024. Loading...", suggesting that drivers Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and reserve driver Mick Schumacher are prepared for the forthcoming challenges in the new season.
The 2023 season was not one that the Brackley outfit would recall that often, as it won zero races through the year. The upgraded W14 car followed Mercedes's design philosophy, popularly called the 'Zeropod' concept, only to be abandoned for the Monaco Grand Prix where the team brought a large set of upgrades.
After a turbulent season, Mercedes acknowledged that their existing concept for the car, marked by unpredictability and bouncing, was not effective. Consequently, it opted to pursue a design philosophy akin to Red Bull's dominant title contender, the RB19.
Team principal Toto Wolff recently expressed that 2024's W15 will be entirely new. With the team applying full throttle in all aspects to ensure no stone is left unturned for this year, pressure has been mounting not only from fans, but also from the seven-time world champion for a car that could give him his eighth world championship title.
George Russell went through several gears to prove himself last year, and in many instances in 2022, he even managed to outpace Hamilton. His inaugural season with Mercedes left a lasting impression, marked by a Grand Prix triumph in Brazil - the team's most recent victory to date.
Fortunately for Schumacher, he will be racing for Alpine in the WEC series this year, and his contract allows him to serve his reserve driver duties in Formula 1 for Mercedes whenever a requirement arises.
Mercedes, the 2023 runner-up, is gearing up to challenge Red Bull's dominance in the upcoming season. With its new car, there is anticipation around whether it can contend for the 2024 championship title and provide Lewis Hamilton an opportunity to secure his place in the history books as Formula 1's greatest driver.
