Mercedes have shared behind-the-scenes of Mick Schumacher having his first seat fitting with the team ahead of the 2023 season.

After a difficult 2022 season with Haas, the German driver did not have his contract extended with the American team. It was later confirmed that he had signed with Mercedes as their reserve driver for the 2023 season.

As the reserve driver for Mercedes, Schumacher will be on standby in case either Lewis Hamilton or George Russell are unable to race, will also participate in PR events, and will spend time gathering data in the team's simulator.

The family connection to Mercedes is also significant for the reserve driver. His father, seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, spent the final three years of his legendary F1 career with Mercedes between 2010 and 2012. It is a proud moment for the Schumacher family, and a clear indication of Mick's potential as a future F1 star.

Mercedes shared behind-the-scenes images from Schumacher's seat fitting at Brackley on Tuesday, which generated a lot of excitement and interest among fans and media.

Schumacher has his sights set on a full-time return to the F1 grid in 2024, and the opportunity to work with the eight-time constructors' world champions, Mercedes, is sure to be a significant boost to his chances.

Finally, it is worth noting that Mercedes will be launching their 2023 car, the W14, on February 15th. This is an important moment for the team, who will be looking to return to title contention after a difficult 2022 season.

The next important F1 date is Friday 3 February for the Red Bull RB19 launch in New York where they are also expected to reveal their partner for 2026, although this has not been confirmed yet.
